 |
| I
am very glad for the list of techniques the videos discussed and
gave us to master. I also liked seeing them practice the same techniques I was
working on in the videos. Student, Valrico, Florida
"My
vehicle training experience has been a good one. I began in a huge
parking lot just like the video instructed. The videos show you just
how to handle every situation. It takes the whole process step by
step, not making it too difficult. It's a gradual process that does
not expect too much from the student too fast....My parents have been very helpful and patient with me in my
driving." - A.E., Baytown, Texas
"I
learned everything I needed to prepare me for the road." - Ronnie
Andrews, Selma, Alabama
|
| "I
greatly appreciated the fact that I was not required to attempt
anything I was not comfortable doing." - Joel Mark Anderson,
Sugar Land, Texas |
|
"My dad and I listened to the tapes and
watched several of the beginning videos, and my dad explained the
terminology used before starting in the parking lot. Once I began
driving, I would say what actions I was doing, such as 'Clear left,
clear right, clear left' or "Mirror.' This system of driver
Commenting was probably the most helpful part of the program, both
because it made me conscious of whether or not I was doing the right
things and it told my dad exactly what I was thinking so that he
would know if I was aware of the hazards or if he needed to alert
me. We began driving in the parking lot, progressing next to light
residential streets and then to streets with faster speeds and
heavier traffic. Freeway driving was my final step in urban driving.
On both of our vacations, I was able to get lots of time driving on
interstate highways. I have received much more practice and personal
attention in the home-taught driver's ed than my friends, and I feel
completely comfortable and in control." - Matt Ashbaugh,
Dallas, Texas
"Excellent.
Clear, concise, interactive; well laid out. Dad learned a lot, too.
A friend took a public high school drivers ed class in which 95%
of the time was spent in the classroom & nearly none in the car.
She thought it was nearly useless. I told her how this course was
different, with lots of in car training to bolster the classroom
material." Student, Greenwood, Arkansas

"My
in-vehicle training experience was awesome! I loved getting to know
how to drive. Also, learning how to maneuver and cooperate with
others on the road. The most helpful parts of this program were the
videos. Actually "seeing" the correct way to drive and
what to do in specific situations was really helpful. I felt so
excited when I realized that I was a courteous driver." B.B.,
Pasadena, Texas
"I
have enjoyed this program and would recommend it to others who are
preparing to drive and even to those who have driven for a long
time." S.L.C., Maryville, Tennessee
"The
main thing that I liked about the in-vehicle training that I did in
this program was that I actually learned things that were going to
apply on the road. I like learning hands on, and this was a very
good way to practice collision-free driving. I didn't enjoy every
second of the in-vehicle training, but it was absolutely worth all
of it. The best thing about all the in-vehicle training was the
layout of all the progressing steps and every day it was something
different. It was good
to have my mom with me to tell me what to do and what not to do.
There were plenty of situations that needed more attention than what
the textbook could cover, so it was good to learn with my parent. I
feel like I have become a success at being a collision-free
driver." - Avery Clemmons, North Pole, Alaska
"My
in-vehicle training experience was very fun. I was with my dad, and
he was laid back about everything. He taught me everything I needed
to know, and gave me opportunities to try it. It made me a
confident, but still aware driver." Student, Frisco, TX
"The
in-vehicle training part of the program, of course, was the most
helpful to me. The more I practiced, the more comfortable I felt
driving in the traffic pattern. I learn a lot from the cassette
tapes. They were very helpful on what to do." - Dana Marie
Cox, Jacksonville, FL |

"I
have had incidents of bad drivers in my path. One of a man going the
wrong way on my side of the road, another of a woman parked on the
freeway waiting to exit on the off-ramp. However, these experiences
only strengthened my abilities. Because of all your program has to
offer, I feel I am becoming an even better driver than my peers who
took the school or driving school programs. My friends are speed
demons." - Christian Giesecke, Flower Mound, Texas
"I
thought the vehicle training experience was great. Between the
program and my mom, the in vehicle training went smoothly and I
learned and did everything I needed to." - B.B., Columbia
Station, Ohio
"Although
I am completely and utterly opposed to my mom's 100 hours policy, I
think that the in-vehicle driving portion of our course was the most
beneficial. Not only did I gain valuable experience as a driver, but
during that time I was open to a LOT of constructive criticism. As
much as I hated my mother yelling in my ear and droning "clear
left, clear right" every few seconds, I feel my parents did
provide me with a good deal of valuable knowledge. They shared tips
with me that I probably would not have gotten elsewhere. Now that I
think about it, I'm not entirely convinced the at-home method wasn't
the way to go. No, wait! Nevermind, just remembered the 100 hour
thing." - Nick Weseman, Allen, Texas

| "The
best part of this program is that I can do it at home in my own time
over a few months. Because my mom was my instructor, I was able to
spend quality time with her. It was fun to be able to be comfortable
with my teacher. I liked the lack of pressure you get from a
classroom atmosphere. I'm glad that I had one-on-one learning; this
way, I was able to ask all the questions I had! I think I will be a
great driver because my mom has helped me learn all the terminology
and we use it to describe situations. I will be a good driver
because I have been able to practice a lot during the in-car
sessions." - BLG, Dallas, Texas
"First
of all, I would like to say that I learned a lot from Driver Ed in a
Box. I found that it was very convenient because I did it out of my
house and could do it on my own time, instead of scheduling
appointments at a driving school. ...The things that helped the most
were the 1-2-3 count before going, and learning the right-of-way
rules." - J.H., Hamden, Connecticut |
|
"My
vehicle training was a wonderful experience! I didn't have to get
out on to the open road until I was ready.
The most helpful parts of Drivers Ed in a Box were the
videos. If it wasn't
for the videos, the learning process would have been a lot
slower." K.J., Mesquite, Texas

"This
course has made me aware of dangerous driving habits in other
drivers and how to compensate for them on the road. I like the goal
of making me a collision-free driver. There couldn't have been a
better teacher than my mom. Having my mom next to me during the
training was beneficial to both of us. She owned up to her own
mistakes and now we should be a family of safer drivers. Thank you,
Driver Ed in a Box!!" - E.K., Georgetown, Texas
"Driver
Ed in a Box has given me a head start in driving. I knew more in my
first week of driving than my friends learned in a year. Right away
I was taught how to deal with distractions in and outside the car
and still be totally focused on driving. In the areas where I live,
many teenagers get seriously injured or die from accidents involving
too many distractions in and around the car. Needless to say, if
they had been taught how to deal with any type of distractions, the
accident would probably never have happened." - Springfield,
Missouri |

"My
in-vehicle experience was interesting. I had been driving in a
pasture with my parents for several years. I learned that different
cars handled differently, and that I needed to take that into
consideration. The most important thing that I learned was to watch
out for other drivers! The most helpful parts of the program was the
step by step videos that mapped out the mental approach to driving.
I think that I am a very careful and cautious driver. I feel
confident that I will be a very good driver." - B.J.,
Houston, Texas
"The
way that you gradually get the student on the road and into traffic
is great. It's a good system and give the student enough time and
experience to drive on his own." - J.N., Franklin, Tennessee
"It
worked well for me and I have recommended this program to many of my
friends who have parents willing enough to spend that much time in a
car with their child who is learning to drive." - C.E.O.,
Houston, Texas

| "I
was impressed with much of the information, because it not only
stressed the importance of driving safely, but also explained in
detail how to do that. Things
like the small mirrors for the passenger and the audio tapes made
the driving less nerve-wracking for everyone involved.
It was neat going step by step with the guys on the tape,
gradually learning more and more.
I especially liked how, at the beginning, they had the parent
get out of the car and into the blind spot, while the student looks
for them using the rear-vies and side-view mirrors.
That helped me know exactly where the blind spot was and
where I needed to look when changing lanes.
The main emphasis of the entire course was safety and the
many tips the guys on the tape gave evidenced that.
One of the tips that really stuck in my head was this: When
you are the first car at a red light, when the light turns green,
don't just go right into the intersection assuming you have the
right of way. Look
before you leap. They
told a story of someone who looked before going, and that saved her
and her passenger's lives. That
made a good impression on me and I have done that ever since.
I believe this course has helped me to become a good driver.
I have had no accidents of tickets as of yet (nor do I plan
to get any, if it is up to me), mainly because of this course.
I have benefited greatly from taking this course, and my mom
even learned some things. Overall,
the course was a wonderful tool for instruction on how to become a
good, defensive driver. I
would recommend it to anyone who wants to become a safe driver!
It's great. Keep
up the good work." C.R.W., Mesa, Arizona |

"My
dad has been the parent to drive with me, and we have had much fun
with the experience. There have naturally been a few tense moments,
but it has given us a lot of time to talk and even a few laughs.
(I'm still waiting for HIM to let ME test HIM, as he said I could do
once, but only for a few minutes.)
We started in the parking lot and have worked our way up. The
Check Lists of things to learn helped us be sure not to miss
anything. We have found
the Commentary terms very helpful. They assure us both that I am
doing the right thing & concentrating on the driving task."
