Summary of South Dakota Graduated Licensing Law
(detailed chart bottom of this page)
South Dakota has a three stage licensing process for minors.
  1. Learner’s License (at least age 15) We recommend our Driver Ed in a Box® to use during the Learner stage. Shows the parent how to teach collision-free driving habits and provides unique teaching tools (mirrors, checklists, videos, audio instruction series, etc.)
  2. Intermediate License (ages 16 - 17)
  3. Regular License (age 17 if has had license at least 6 months)
Teens want to know how to stay out of collisions!
Today’s teens do not just want their license; they want to be good collision-free drivers. They know the risks. Virtually all have friends who got a license and were involved in a collision in the first four weeks. Most teens have lost classmates due to fatal collisions.
Driver Ed in a Box® Certificate of Completion!

Our product now includes both the Interactive CD-Rom Version and the Textbook Version for one low price.  You may use either version to complete the course at your own pace.

Teens want to know "why" the things you ask them to do will work. When you complete the full course you get a Certificate of Completion. Take this to your insurance agent. It varies state by state and by insurance company, but you may receive an insurance discount.
Using the full course your teen will learn why each step is important while learning the collision-free HABITS that make you a better driver. The full course also includes a section on Social & Consumer Issues. This includes how alcohol and drugs as well as emotions and attitude affect driving performance. Also covered are vehicle ownership (buying, leasing, insuring, and maintaining).
Over 15,000 students have used Driver Ed in a Box®.
"I believe that Driver Ed in a Box has made me into a much safer driver than I would be if I hadn't taken a drivers ed course. Thank you for putting me on the right path to be a safe and collision-free driver." - P.G., Colton, South Dakota
"Driver Ed in a Box has benefited me by teaching me how to drive safely. The repetitions helped me to develop good habits that have stayed with me. The importance of reading the traffic scene far ahead and looking over my shoulder before I make a lane change have become second nature to me, making driving in heavy traffic much easier." - Lauren R. Hall, Student
"We were traveling home at night on the interstate with (student) at the wheel when we came up behind a drink driver. (Student) was very calm & confident as he kept a safe distance as the drunk weaved from side to side doing 75+ mph." - K.G., Colton, SD
