Welcome! If you are not a resident of Michigan please click here and select your state.

"Michigan state requires Individuals under the age of 18 must successfully complete a driver education course and have parental consent before receiving their Level 1 or Level 2 license. Your state does not recognize parent taught or online driver ed courses for this requirement. You must complete a public school driver ed course or a commercial driver ed school course for this requirement. We suggest you use Driver Ed in a Box® to teach your teen safe collision free driving during the level 1 learner license."

Summary of Michigan Graduated Licensing Law
(detailed chart bottom of this page)
Michigan has a three stage licensing process for minors.
  1. Level 1 (at least age 14 & 9 months) We recommend our Driver Ed in a Box® to use during the Learner stage. Shows the parent how to teach collision-free driving habits and provides unique teaching tools (mirrors, checklists, videos, audio instruction series, etc.).
  2. Level 2 (at least 16)
  3. Level 3 (age 17)
Teens want to know how to stay out of collisions!
Today’s teens do not just want their license; they want to be good collision-free drivers. They know the risks. Virtually all have friends who got a license and were involved in a collision in the first four weeks. Most teens have lost classmates due to fatal collisions.
Driver Ed in a Box® Certificate of Completion!

Our product now includes both the Interactive CD-Rom Version and the Textbook Version for one low price.  You may use either version to complete the course at your own pace.

Teens want to know "why" the things you ask them to do will work. When you complete the full course you get a Certificate of Completion. Take this to your insurance agent. It varies state by state and by insurance company, but you may receive an insurance discount.
Using the full course your teen will learn why each step is important while learning the collision-free HABITS that make you a better driver. The full course also includes a section on Social & Consumer Issues. This includes how alcohol and drugs as well as emotions and attitude affect driving performance. Also covered are vehicle ownership (buying, leasing, insuring, and maintaining).
Over 15,000 students have used Driver Ed in a Box®.
"Driver Ed in a Box taught many things that we did not cover when I was teaching him to drive by myself. He is a much better driver because of this program." - G.W., Parent
"This program is very good in explaining the steps for each maneuver. It gradually builds from the beginner's lessons up to the skilled, and gives some situations that one might meet up with in their driving. I enjoyed the Driver Ed in a Box curriculum." - Julia Shore, Parent
"I learned everything I needed to prepare me for the road." - Ronnie Andrews, Student

The probationary period is a way for the Secretary of State to monitor the driving performance of new drivers.
